Our Brazilian ‘Agbê for Maracatu’ (shekere) beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in London cover technique, rhythms, moves, and the music’s cultural context.
The courses are brought to you by Baque de Axé in collaboration with Naçao de Maracatu Porto Rico’s agbêzeira lead, Jaysse Chacon.
Agbê: Beginners
In our ‘Agbê for Maracatu’ beginners course, you will learn the origins and roots of this ancestral instrument as well as the basic techniques, rhythms and moves for Maracatu - which is a traditional form of carnival percussion, that has deep roots in Afro-Brazilian traditions, and is a major form of carnival in Recife, Brazil.
x4 in-person classes with our Baque de Axé agbêzeiras.
x1 online class with Nação de Maracatu Porto Rico’s agbêzeira lead, Jaysse Chacon. Jaysse will speak in Portuguese with an English translator on the call.
No previous experience required – just bring along great vibes and comfy shoes!
