Beginner workshops (Spring’26)

Whether you are completely new to percussion or just looking to try something new, our beginner-friendly workshops might be what you’re looking for!

We play a style of Maracatu called ‘Maracatu de Baque Virado’ (‘the turning beat'), reflecting the syncopation and interaction of the beats. This traditional form of carnival parading, percussion and dance has deep roots in Afro-Brazilian traditions and is a major form of carnival in Recife, Brazil.

As we enter our Notting Hill Carnival season, we are launching 2 new classes to get your started!

  • Agbê (shekere): Learn the origins and roots, basic techniques, rhythms and dance moves for Maracatu.

📅May 31st (Sun) 2-5pm

  • Alfaia (light bass drum): Learn solid playing technique and core Maracatu patterns.

📅June 6th (Sat) 3:45-6:45pm

No experience. No pressure. Just rhythm, repetition and lovely teachers that will help make it click!
